The 4th Industrial Revolution and its impact on the manufacturing sector The presentation will look at the new era of industrial revolution, that is part of the much broader industrial revolution that has been unfolding over the last two centuries and which is commonly referred to as the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In examining how the 4IR has changed and is continuing to change the world we live in, the presentation will refer to Disruption, which has given birth to companies like Uber, Facebook and WhatsApp, whose rise has resulted in the decline of other, traditional sectors. It will also look at the effect of the 4IR on manufacturing and try to determine how South Africa and KZN can prepare for, benefit from, these changes in the global economy. Presenter: Nisaar Mahomed - Trade and Investment KwaZulu Natal Nisaar Mahomed joined Trade and Investment KZN in 2011 and work in the Knowledge Management Unit with responsibilities for the Green Economy (renewable energy) and the Knowledge Economy. Nisaar Mahomed has a Masters from the University of London and prior to joining TIKZN he worked for the HSRC, the trade union movement and provincial government.
