His Worship the Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, invited various business Chamber representatives, the KZN Growth Coalition and departmental sector, representatives from big business and corporates within the City to join in this significant launch which was held early in September.  Over the years, the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry NPC has partnered with eThekwini Municipality to strengthen the relationship between the city and business.

The Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomed the opportunity to support the city, and was pleased to see that the eThekwini Municipality had taken specific action to collaborate with businesses to find solutions that address our ailing economy. 

“We as organised business are optimistic that this social compact will provide strategic advice and insight to economic development matters, and promote creative and innovative solutions to pressing issues. Our key ambition for the City of Durban is to help revive, revitalise and preserve the city so that we can truly live up to our city’s vision to be Africa’s most caring and liveable city” said Palisa Phili CEO of the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda said “the EEC will serve as a social compact, providing strategic advice on economic development, inclusive growth strategies and support to City Leadership. The forum consists of expert and cross-sectoral leaders from various sectors and business determined by public nomination to advise the Mayor and City Leadership on economic development, investment promotion, and ensure that there is an enabling environment for business within the City.”

The Durban Chamber of Commerce will continue to work and engage with the City to ensure that Durban is a hospitable environment to do business.
