Webinar: Agriculture Business Forum – 18 August 2020
About this Event
Presentation: Agri-Processing Resource Efficiency (APRE) Program.
Presented by Raymond Neville Greig, Resource Efficiency Consultant, International Finance Corporation.
In 2019, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) launched a four-year Agri-Processing Resource Efficiency (APRE) program in South Africa to address market challenges and help the industry transition to better water and resource efficiency practices. The program aims to improve water use, reduce overall water consumption, and mitigate water supply risks in the sector. Recognizing the co-relation between energy and water, the project will also support energy savings and deliver clean energy generation options. This should lead to operational cost savings and reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. IFC has recently concluded a resource efficiency bench marking study for the red meat abattoir industry and found that a typical abattoir can reduce its water consumption by up to 28%, resulting in national savings of 1.25 million cubic meters and R37 million per annum. Please join us on 18 August 2020 as IFC gives an introduction to APRE and presents some of the key findings of the red meat abattoir study and firm-level projects, and outlines a plan for future resource efficiency initiatives for the Agri-Processing sector.
