Webinar: Thought Leadership Business Forum – 26 August

Join the Durban Chamber of Commerce for a webinar focused on our Thought Leadership Business Forum on Wednesday, 26th August 2020.

About this Event

Presentation: The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI).

Presented by 1. Rosalind Lake, Director, Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa Inc.

Presented by 2. Priyanka Naidoo, Technology Lawyer, Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa Inc.

Compliance with POPI should not be considered a mere legal requirement; compliance makes good business sense to both safeguard a company’s reputation and to mitigate what can be substantial organisational risks, for example data breaches. In the event that a data breach occurs, this can disrupt a company’s operations and business continuity. It could also have serious financial repercussions for the company, for example where the company has to pay large sums of money to investigate and recover from a breach, or even if the company is sued. POPI provides companies with meaningful direction on how to manage these risks. You should be considering; your company’s general information management, how the organisation processes personal information, identifying your risk areas and allocating appropriate resources. Awareness of the extent of the risks and the prevention action needed is the first step to identifying appropriate, practical and business suitable steps to mitigate the risks and ensure compliance with POPI.
